Podcast interview with Gawain Towler, UKIP Euro-Election candidate for the South-West. By Charon QC

We have teamed up with Charon QC to do a series of political podcasts. This is an interview with Gawain Towler, a UKIP candidate.

Today, as part of a new series of political podcasts for the Wardman Wire, I am talking to Gawain Towler, the prospective UKIP candidate for the South West in the forthcoming election. We discuss UKIP policies on Europe, the alternative to membership of the EU, and a range of current issues. I also ask Gawain if UKIP will reap the benefit of support from voters fed up with the main parties after the expenses revelations of the last three weeks.

Podcast interview with Tom Harris MP. By Charon QC

We have teamed up with Charon QC to do a series of political podcasts to be published on his site and the Wardman Wire . This is an interview with Tom Harris MP; it is Lawcast 136.

Tom Harris MP is the Labour member for Glasgow South, an enthusiastic user of twitter and author of his own very active blog AND ANOTHER THING. Tom has also taken to podcasting himself in recent weeks with Jamie Read MP under the title Two men and a Pod – and most enjoyable they are too.

It is impossible for me to interview a well known MP and not mention the elephant in the room – the subject of MP expenses, the title of a podcast done by Tom and Jamie Read towards the tail end of last week. As far as I know, Tom Harris doesn’t have a moat and if he did, it is unlikely he would have claimed for it.

Content: MP Expenses – the way forward | The position of The Speaker in the present crisis |Do we need an election now and who is going to win? | Blogging, Twitter and Dr Who.

The Genesis of the Politalks Podcast

Mike Semple-Pigott, who edits the Charon QC blog and the InsiteLaw Magazine, will be contributing podcasts to the site. Mike has done a lot of podcasts, and also makes them professionally from time to time for different organisations, which have included the Law Society.

He covers mainly legal subjects, but has been moving into the Civil Liberties area, and is now dipping a toe into politics.

Here is a first – trial – podcast where Charon QC has done a 20-minute interview with Tom Harris MP.

I’ll post this podcast as a separate file if it all works. The conversation included the intriguing idea of Tom Harris replacing Michael Portillo on the “Daily Politics” micro-sofa. If it happened, I’d vote for Ann Widdicombe to replace Diane Abbott.

For the Wardman Wire, this supports our aim of being a “Junction Box” site in breaking down the walls between niches in the blogosphere, while doing our (small) bit to give a wider audience to political debate.

There is also a slight advantage in having legal posts done by real lawyers, which means that it is a bit more difficult to make the “Bah ! Cynically nihilistic political bloggers” canard stick.
